Organization

Overview
The Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) is an entity responsible for conducting comprehensive transportation planning in the Ames, Iowa, metropolitan area. The AAMPO brings together regional stakeholders and agencies to develop long and short-term transportation plans, identify and prioritize transportation projects and initiatives, ensure that transportation plans/projects align with regional goals and comply with federal regulations, and allocate federal transportation funds.

Member Governments
The Transportation Policy Committee (TPC), which is composed of representatives from the MPO's member agencies, governs the AAMPO. The following are local governments and agencies with voting representation on the TPC:

  • City of Ames
  • City of Gilbert
  • Boone County
  • Story County
  • Ames Transit Agency (CyRide)
The following agencies have non-voting, advisory representation on the TPC:

  • Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
  • Federal Transit Administration (FTA)
  • Iowa Department of Transportation
  • Iowa State University
