Title VI

Notice to the Public

The AAMPO hereby gives public notice that its policy is to assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, related statutes and regulation provide. This policy assures that no person shall on the ground of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. The Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 amended Title VI to specify that entire institutions receiving Federal funds, whether schools, colleges, government entities, or private employers must comply with Federal civil rights laws, rather than just the particular programs or activities that receive Federal funds. We are also concerned about the impacts of our programs, projects and activities on low income and minority populations ("Environmental Justice") under Title VI.

Complaint Process

Any person who believes that they are being denied participation in a project, being denied benefits of a program, or otherwise being discriminated against because of your race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability, you may file a complaint form within 180 days of the alleged discrimination. Within 10 calendar days, the AAMPO will forward this form and any additional information to the Iowa Department of Transportation. The Iowa Department of Transportation will conduct an investigation into the complaint and make a recommendation to the Federal Highway Administration, which will make final determination. The Iowa Department of Transportation and the AAMPO will inform the person filing the complaint of the final determination.

Submissions

The AAMPO is required to periodically update its Title VI programs with the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration. The AAMPO also occasionally signs assurances, which is the process by which the AAMPO reaffirms it is adhering to Title VI requirements.
