AAMPO Awarded SS4A Grant

On December 13, 2023, the Ames Area MPO was awarded $100,000 in Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant funding by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The SS4A Grant Program was established in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to support the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Roadway Safety Strategy and goal of zero roadway deaths using a Safe System Approach. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries and over $3 billion is still available for future funding rounds.

The $100K grant will be used by the AAMPO to create of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for the MPO region. The total budget to create the plan will be $125K, with 80 percent of the funds coming from the SS4A grant and the remaining 20 percent coming from local match sources. The creation of this plan will allow for MPO member agencies to potentially apply for future rounds of SS4A funding to implement projects and initiatives identified in the plan.
